Waiting4XP (animated)

Waiting4XP is an animated boot screen in reminiscence of the famous painter Hyewon (혜원 蕙園) from the Joseon dynasty, Korea.  Hyewon was born into a family of famous court painters, and later on highly valued especially for genre art.  The incredible collection Hyewon pungsokdo(cheom) 혜원풍속도(첩) 蕙園風俗圖(帖) even made it to South Korea’s National Treasure No. 135.

Hyewon’s ink painting's title 기다림 (Gidalim) “Waiting” with its motif of a lady gazing into the distance just gave me the inspiration: Now she watches at the logo for the OS to boot.

The text says “Windows XP를 기다리는 中입니다” – “I am waiting for Windows XP” or, “I've been waiting for Windows XP” while the progress bar displays “始作,” i. e. “starting.”  Well yes, I just wanted to have a couple of Hanja in the phrases, too. – Finally I selfishly added a mimicked carved seal print (notice that red square thingy below the bar), containing mito, out of which I created my avatar.


NB: Deviation update! (13/7/23) – Did some minor editing of the logo by adding another shade of green; still there are just 16 colors.
Deviation update II! (13/8/9) – Reduced the gap between “xp” and “를” a few pixels, which otherwise would likely look as two seperate words.
Note: As this theme is quite popular, I make it a candidate for an Arch Linux boot splash – probably unanimated Syslinux (first).
