The Spectator

• “The Spectator” – Beijing Tian'anmen Square (天安門廣場 / 天安门广场), China, June 1997


• This is a gloomy impression of a Beijing citizen watching the daily taking down ceremony of China’s national flag at sunset, in front of the Gate of Heavenly Peace (Tian'anmen). I loved this fellow’s somewhat cool and routined way to “sit-stand” on his bike. However I wonder, if he was totally relaxed. Another funny thing were those curly front spokes. – Note the white digital clock at the National Museum in the background. It was counting down to the Hong Kong handover.
